Cooperative
Fibre: Our Network’s Strength |
Montréal, February 19, 2004 –
his morning, Coopérative fédérée
de Québec President Denis Richard launched the organization’s
82nd Annual Meeting with this year’s theme, “Cooperative
Fibre: Our Network’s Strength.”
“Let us have no illusions: farmers in Québec
and Canada are currently going through a more turbulent period
than we have seen in many years. Regardless of the size of
our farms, the technological explosion, environmental rules
and access to markets will increasingly require agricultural
producers to belong to a network that can back them up in
their daily work and ensure the stability and success of their
enterprise,” said Mr. Richard.
Coopérative fédérée de Québec
already has such a network. Present across Québec,
this network is well rooted in the community and totally dedicated
to our interests; the Coop network represents a desirable
alternative to integration. “It is our responsibility
to take it in the right direction and ensure that we can face
the challenges of tomorrow together,” pointed out Mr.
Richard.
In 2003, the Cooperative recorded a net increase in sales
of $2.8 billion, while operating earnings stood at $26.1 million.
“Despite major losses reported in our pork marketing
operations, we achieved these results thanks to the record
performance of our Sonic Petroleum Division and the continuous
progress of our Farm Supply Division’s results which
are indicative of the relevance of our business offering and
the unfailing support of our members and customers,”
added Mr. Richard.
